Scared Army Girl

CONCEPT

Inspired by the song "Great War" by the band Sabaton and the recent Netflix film All Quiet on the Western Front. I wanted to create a piece with the theme "This isnt what i signed up for" showcasing the fear and horrors of war without showing too much graphic and more emotion.

I creatively decided to go for Non historical accuracy when making this so thats why theres not a specific uniform i went for when making this.

MAYA

Ended up creating and Rigging the model in Autodesk Maya with assets i have at my disposal.

The trickiest part of the model was the shoelaces, but ended up figuring out how to make it without tearing my hair out too much

The Rifle was modeled after the Enfield Rifle as i was aiming for a WW1 type of soldier so the gun should at least fit the generation somewhat

ZBRUSH

After Rigging and modeling in Maya, i worked on the face a bit in Zbrush to get the nose shape and the expression down.

On top of that, i also made the hair within Zbrush aswell.

Everything else was just modelled in Maya, only the face was sculpted and then Retopo'd in Maya

BLENDER

So along the way i was gonna render this piece in Pixar's Renderman, unfortunately Renderman has issues like randomly deciding to not open or work out of the blue and instead of spending hours trying to fix it, i decided to just learn Blender Cycles renderer instead.

Blender Cycles has some unique things to it and im experienced in working with its shader system before with using it on previous hobby models of mine.

So everything on this model was procedural custom shaders, no outside image textures on this aside from a wood texture on the gun model. The Skin shader used maps to guide what colors went were.

FINAL PRODUCT

I had fun making this project and the main thing i took out of learning from this is that i shouldn't be confined to using one product to get things accomplished

I enjoyed working with Blender Cycles and i hope to incorporate it into Future projects of mine
